HC Deb 03 June 1930 vol 239 cc1952-3
26. Mr. REMER

asked the Secretary of State for War if his attention has been called to the battered state of the Union Jack in the British War cemetery at Etaples; and what steps are taken to ensure that the national flag is maintained in a proper state?

Mr. SHAW

The state of the flag had already been reported to the Imperial War Graves Commission and arrangements are being made to replace it as quickly as possible.

Mr. REMER

Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps so that a tattered Union Jack does not exist in future in any of the British war cemeteries?

Mr. SHAW

I think that the work of the War Graves Commission is exceptionally well done, and I am sure that they can be relied upon to see that these things are remedied as quickly as the damage takes place.
