HC Deb 02 June 1930 vol 239 c1758
31. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Pensions the amount of grants from the general voluntary fund paid to beneficiaries for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date; and the amount of grant earmarked in connection with the education and training of fatherless children during the same period?

The MINISTER of PENSIONS (Mr. F. O. Roberts)

The total amount of the cash grants made from the voluntary fund during the 12 months ended 31st March last was £12,950, of which £6,579 was for the education and training of children, mainly fatherless. With regard to the last mentioned item, my hon. Friend will understand that the liability of the fund substantially exceeds the cash grants made in a given year.

Mr. DAY

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether this is a greater sum than in the previous year?

Mr. ROBERTS

I cannot say, off-hand, but I shall be glad to look into it.
