HC Deb 02 June 1930 vol 239 c1747
10. Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS (for Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE)

asked the Secretary of State for India what steps, if any, are taken to prevent Russian agents from entering India, especially along the North-West frontier; and whether any information has been received by his Department indicating that Russian agents are entering, or are attempting to enter, the country for the purpose of stirring up trouble?

Mr. BENN

Entry into India is in general governed by the provisions of the Indian Passport Act. The Government of India have not reported any recent cases of the entry of Russian agents.

Mr. WILLIAMS

When the right hon. Gentleman says there have not been any "recent" cases how far back does that answer go?

Mr. BENN

I cannot say more. I have given all the information I can, and the hon. Member must put down another question.
