asked the Secretary of State for India how many persons were killed and injured as the result of the recent outbreak in Bombay; and whether the conditions there are now normal?

Mr. BENN

The casualties reported as the result of the disturbances in Bombay City on the night of 27th May and the morning of the 28th are four persons killed and 56 injured. Since mid-day on the 28th all has been quiet, and so far as I know conditions are now normal.

How many British European casualties were there?

Mr. BENN

I could not say without inquiry.

11. Sir A. KNOX

asked the Secretary of State for India how many British men and women have been injured in riots in India during the past month?

Mr. BENN

In order to furnish the hon. and gallant Member with a complete answer, I have addressed an inquiry to the Government of India. I will communicate with him when I receive their reply.

Will the right hon. Gentleman also ask for the figures of Indian casualties?

Mr. BENN

I am circulating to-day a table for April showing all the casualties.
