HC Deb 30 July 1930 vol 242 cc491-2
59. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can give any further information with regard to the proposed new bridge over the Humber?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I am informing the committee of local authorities interested in this proposal that I should be prepared to make a grant of 75 per cent. towards the cost of an approved scheme, subject to the necessary agreements being reached among the various interests concerned, and provided steps are taken to seek the necessary powers at an early date.

Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

While thanking my hon. Friend for his answer, may I ask him whether the report of his engineers has been favourable? Are we to understand from his answer that that is so?

Mr. MORRISON

Obviously, the report of the engineers is favourable in principle, or I should not have gone the length that I have, but it is still subject to the approval of the Humber Conservancy.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is my hon. Friend calling together the authorities concerned at an early date, with a view to consultation?

Mr. MORRISON

I have communicated with the clerk to the joint committee of the local authorities.
