HC Deb 30 July 1930 vol 242 cc489-90
56. Mr. LLEWELLYN-JONES

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is now in a position to say when the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company propose to carry out the alterations at the Flint railway station which are necessary to make the platform safe for passengers; and whether he can see his way to intervene so that the work may be carried out without delay?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I have communicated with the railway company, and am informed that they regret that in their financial position they are not prepared to undertake the heavy expenditure which the proposed alterations at this station would involve. Although the platform at this place is lower than modern platforms, the company do not consider that it is unsafe. I have no power to require the company to carry out these works.

Mr. LLEWELLYN-JONES

Is the Minister aware that there have been several accidents at this station?

Mr. MORRISON

I am not aware of that fact, but I have communicated with the railway company, and, if there are any other additional facts to which the hon. Member would like their attention drawn, I shall be pleased to act on any information that he may send to me.
