HC Deb 30 July 1930 vol 242 cc460-1
3. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any reply has been received to his suggestion to the French Government that Monsieur Briand's proposals for a United States of Europe should be placed on the agenda for discussion at the Assembly of the League of Nations in September; and whether he will, in any event, himself take action in the matter?

Mr. DALTON

Monsieur Briand has not yet replied to the observations offered by the various Governments on his memorandum. He will, no doubt, consider the course to be pursued in the light of these observations. No further action by His Majesty's Government seems to be called for at present.

Mr. MANDER

Will the hon. Gentleman bear in mind at a later stage the importance of bringing this matter forward in some manner, for discussion at the Assembly this year?

Mr. DALTON

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend and the Government, in their reply to Monsieur Briand, made it clear that they thought that it would be very helpful if a discussion could take place at the Assembly.
