HC Deb 22 July 1930 vol 241 c1916
5. Mr. ISAACS

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number and value of American newspaper printing presses imported into Britain during the 12 months ended to the last convenient date?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

The imports of newspaper printing presses are not separately recorded in the trade returns, but are included under the heading of newspaper, letterpress and lithographic machinery and parts thereof, the imports of which, into the United Kingdom, registered as consigned from the United State during the 12 months ended 30th June, 1930, amounted to 2,943 tons, of a declared value of £591,226. These figures do not include type-setting machinery.

Mr. ISAACS

Is my right hon. Friend aware that these foreign newspaper presses are being used to print Empire Free Trade newspapers?
