HC Deb 21 July 1930 vol 241 c1726
27. Mr. MARJORIBANKS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is still prepared to negotiate with the Egyptian government on the basis of the draft treaty.

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The attitude of His Majesty's Government as regards the Treaty remains as defined in my reply to a similar Question by the hon. and gallant Member for Chelmsford (Colonel Howard-Bury) on the 30th June; but, in view of recent happenings in Egypt, His Majesty's Government must be guided by the future course of events.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

Is the right hon. Gentleman now convinced of the necessity of British troops—

HON. MEMBERS

Order!

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member must not hang other questions on to the one that is on the Paper.

Mr. THURTLE

Is it not a fact that the Government are only prepared to negotiate with an Egyptian Government which is acting in accordance with an Egyptian Parliamentary majority?
