§ 8. Mr. MORLEYasked the Minister of Labour if she will set up a committee to inquire and report upon the effect of the introduction of machinery in causing unemployment in recent years and to make recommendations to deal with unemployment caused by this agency?
§ Miss BONDFIELDAs my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer informed the hon. Member for Walsall (Mr. McShane) on the 23rd January last, all factors affecting the volume of employment are under constant examination by the Departments concerned and in 1438 other ways. I do not think that any good purpose would be served by setting up a special committee at the present time.
§ Mr. McSHANEIs there any hope of this House getting any reports whatever from the committees that are dealing with subjects of this nature? Surely that is a reasonable question to ask. Can we get any information at all on this subject to enable us to form a judgment upon it?
