HC Deb 16 July 1930 vol 241 cc1259-60
6. Dr. VERNON DAVIES (for Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE)

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any British subjects captured by Chinese brigands are now being held to ransom; and, if so, what steps are being taken to procure their release?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

Four British subjects are being held for ransom in China. Everything possible is being done by means of repeated representations, both to the Central Government and to the provincial authorities, to effect their release.

Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE

Do these four persons mentioned include the two lady missionaries recently captured?
