HC Deb 10 July 1930 vol 241 cc611-2
85. Mr. BUCHANAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that, in a property situated at Bedford Lane, Glasgow, 14 tenants have been ordered to remove forthwith; that the tenants have not been able to secure other homes; and, seeing that this is a slum-clearance scheme, if he will take steps to see that the Glasgow Corporation provide houses for the displaced families?

Mr. JOHNSTON

The property to which the hon. Member refers has been acquired by the Corporation of Glasgow for the purpose of street widening, and not in connection with a slum-clearance scheme. The matter is solely within the jurisdiction of the corporation, but I have made inquiries as to the position, and I am informed that the proposed street widening works have not yet been begun, and that no notice requiring the tenants of the property to remove forthwith has been issued. The corporation inform me that they have no intention of displacing the tenants until alternative accommodation has been provided for them.
