Mr. DAYasked the Secretary of State for India whether he has any information and can state the value of orders for locomotives or any other railway essentials which have been ordered during the 12 months ended to the last convenient date from Continental countries by the High Commissioner for India on behalf of that Government?
§ Mr. DAYCan the right hon. Gentleman say whether every effort is made by his Department to see that these orders are placed in Britain?
§ Mr. BENNI would call my hon. Friend's attention to the fact that the High Commissioner has power to purchase where he thinks fit, without pressure being brought to bear upon him by my Department.
