§ 69. Mr. LONGBOTTOMasked the Minister of Health if his attention has been called to the condition of the operating theatre at St. Luke's Poor Law Hospital, Halifax; and, if so, will he agree to the immediate reconstruction of the theatre, together with its being fitted up with modern appliances.
§ Mr. GREENWOODMy attention has been called to the matter to which my hon. Friend refers. As I have already explained to him, I am unable in present circumstances to approve the scheme in the form submitted by the guardians, but I shall be ready to give consideration to such proposals as may be agreed by the guardians and their successors.
§ Mr. LONGBOTTOMDoes not my right hon. Friend agree that it is urgently necessary that this theatre should be reconstructed; and, seeing that it will be required in future, will he not see the advisability of compelling them to do this work, leaving financial adjustment for a later period?
§ Mr. GREENWOODIt is not a matter of financial adjustment, but of the form of the scheme, and, if the guardians and the local authority which will take over on 1st April agree, I am sure that there will be no difficulty about approving it.
