HC Deb 30 January 1930 vol 234 c1157
29. Mr. MATTERS

asked the Home Secretary if, with a view to making conditions more attractive to foreign tourists and ensuring a greater measure of success for the work of the Travel Association of Great Britain and Ireland, he will favourably consider proposals for the relaxation of regulations and procedure associated with registration of such tourists at police stations?

Mr. CLYNES

The majority of tourists are already exempt from registration. The provisions of Article 6 (5) of the Aliens Order do not require an alien to register until he has been two months in the United Kingdom. I have great sympathy with the objects mentioned in the first part of the question, but I have no information which suggests that for this purpose the Aliens Order needsmodification. I shall, of course, be ready to consider any proposals which the hon. Member may wish to lay before me.
