Mr. THOMASNo formal application has yet been submitted by the Mossley Town Council to the Unemployment Grants Committee for a grant towards works for the relief of unemployment.
§ Mr. SANDHAMMay I ask whether the Department of the Lord Privy Seal has had the same experience which seems to be coming to other hon. Members, that most of these local authorities would like to reconsider the financial help granted by the Department?
Mr. THOMASIt would be a mistake to convey to local authorities the idea that they will get better terms than under the old situation. I made it quite clear before the House rose that these terms were generous and would not be improved upon. That statement has been justified by the increased number of applications since.
