HC Deb 27 January 1930 vol 234 c580
2. Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the Secretary of State for India what has been the result of the Conference summoned by the Government of India to consider the development of the proposed Indian mercantile marine; whether the Government of India itself put forward any definite proposals; and what action, if any, it is now proposed to take?

Mr. BENN

No agreement was reached at the Conference; and the present position remains as stated in the communiqué issued by the Government of India on 6th January and published in the Press in this country on the following day.

Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE

Am I to understand that the Government have definitely stated that they are going to come to a decision in the matter, or are they going to have another Conference?

Mr. BENN

I have no information beyond the communiqué.
