HC Deb 27 January 1930 vol 234 c608
64. Mr. C. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the number of individual owners of land in Great Britain?

Mr. N. BUXTON

As the answer contains a number of figures, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. PALMER

Will these figures include the relative amounts of taxation that ought to be paid upon these lands?

Following is the answer:

Information as to the number of individual owners of land in Great Britain is not available from the returns collected by the Ministry, but the numbers and acreage of agricultural holdings owned or mainly owned by the occupiers in England and Wales and Scotland in 1927, the latest year in which these particulars were obtained, were as follow:

Acres. Number.
England 8,194,336 125,244
Wales 1,031,398 21,643
Scotland 1,226,393 12,920
10,452,127 159,807
