HC Deb 27 January 1930 vol 234 c584
7. Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has had any further communications from the French Ambassador with regard to the Dead Sea concessions and what has been his reply; whether any agreement has yet been reached with the French Government; and, if not, whether the whole question is to be referred to the Hague?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Arthur Henderson)

The reply to the first two parts of the question is in the negative. I am not yet in a position to make any statement in regard to the third part of the question.

Colonel HOWARD-BURY

In view of the ratification of the Optional Clause, will this matter have to come up before the International Court at the Hague?

Mr. HENDERSON

I have nothing to add to the answer that I have given.

Major NATHAN

How does it come about that the French Government has any interest in the matter?

Mr. HENDERSON

I must ask for notice of that question.
