HC Deb 27 January 1930 vol 234 cc593-4
12. Mr. MARJORIBANKS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has in view any arrangements for the employment or pensioning of British officials in Egypt in the event of the terms of the draft treaty coming into effect?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The position of British officials in Egypt has not been lost sight of by His Majesty's Government, but I am unable to make any statement on the subject at present.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that very great anxiety prevails in all ranks of British officials in Egypt, and will he give some guarantee as to future pensioning or employment?

Mr. HENDERSON

I am not aware that that anxiety exists, especially having regard to the bearing on this matter of the compensation law of 1923. Perhaps the hon. Member will look into the connection between the two positions.
