HC Deb 24 February 1930 vol 235 c1870
76. Lieut.-Colonel JAMES

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he has given his sanction to the destruction of the water garden in Regent's Park originally laid out by Sir Joseph Paxton?

Mr. LANSBURY

The hon. Member is, I imagine, referring to the lily pond in the flower garden, which is being cleaned out and somewhat enlarged to add to its attractiveness. The records of my Department show that this pond was constructed in 1899 and no connection can be traced with Sir Joseph Paxton who, I am informed, died in 1865.
