82. Colonel BROWNasked the Minister of Transport if he intends to make previous local knowledge of roads and conditions an essential qualification for the appointment of area chairman of the proposed traffic commissioners?
§ Mr. HERBERT MORRISONI cannot make any definite statement at present as to the qualifications necessary in the case of the chairmen of the road traffic commissioners who will be appointed if the Road Traffic Bill becomes law in its present form; but, as the remaining two commissioners for each traffic area would be nominated by the councils of local authorities in the area, it does not seem to me that local knowledge on the part of the chairman need be an essential condition of appointment.
§ Mr. MORRISONNo decision has been come to.
