46 and 47. Mr. ALLENasked the Prime Minister, (1) if he will state when he proposes to announce his policy for the development, in co-operation with the other States composing it, of the economic resources of the British Commonwealth of Nations;
(2) what steps he proposes to take which will ensure closer economic relationships between Great Britain, India, the self-governing Dominions overseas, and the other constituent communities of the British Commonwealth of Nations?
§ The PRIME MINISTERThe hon. Member's questions cover a wide field, 1367 and it is difficult to deal with them in a brief answer. But he can rest assured that some at least of the aspects of the problems raised will be discussed, and I hope that definite conclusions will be reached, at the forthcoming meeting of the Imperial Conference.
Mr. ALLENMay I ask if the right hon. Gentleman is aware that the words of these questions are taken, word for word, from "Labour and the Nation," and is it not time that some steps were taken to ensure further co-operation?
§ The PRIME MINISTERYes, I was fully aware of it, and that was why I gave the answer I have given.
