HC Deb 18 February 1930 vol 235 cc1159-60
67. Mr. HAYCOCK

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what sums were recovered last year from the amounts provided during the period 1918–22 to Admiral Koltchak, General Denikin, General Yudenitch, and other White Russian leaders, for materials and munitions; and whether he has any expectation of recovering any further sums thus advanced?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

Nothing has been recovered in respect of the value of materials and munitions referred to in the question, and there is at present no prospect of recovering any part of such advances.

Mr. HAYCOCK

Does that mean that we have lost more than £100,000,000 by backing Russian counter-revolutionaries?
