HC Deb 18 February 1930 vol 235 cc1144-5
46. Mr. MANDER

asked the Prime Minister if he is prepared to appoint an advisory committee representative of all parties in the House with a view to the solution of the unemployment problem?

Mr. SNOWDEN

I can add nothing to what has already been said in reply to questions on this subject. At the same time I would remind the hon. Member that, as the Lord Privy Seal has already informed the House, the Government are in close and constant communication with representative persons of every variety of opinion and experience.

Mr. MANDER

Do I understand that the Government are satisfied with the success attained by their own party alone, so far?

Mr. HANNON

Will the right hon. Gentleman not take into consultation this monopoly of wisdom in the Liberal party?

Mr. SNOWDEN

My right hon. Friend has, I believe, already said that he would be willing to consider representations from the Members to whom the hon. Member for Moseley (Mr. Hannon) refers, but I understand that no response has yet been made.

Mr. MANDER

But does not the right hon. Gentleman think that it is for the Government to take the initiative in this matter?
