HC Deb 18 February 1930 vol 235 c1121
68. Mr. GUINNESS

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of ex-service temporary clerks discharged during the year 1929 from their posts in the Civil Service owing to the termination of their work, and who were not offered other employment by the Joint Substitution Board?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Pethick-Lawrence)

Further employment was available for every efficient ex-service temporary clerk within the Guinness Agreement discharged during 1929.

Mr. GUINNESS

Has the hon. Gentleman not noticed that my question is about the temporary clerks who are not covered by that agreement, and is it not a fact that these men are being dismissed from Kew because of the large intake of new recruits?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

That is the subject of the next question on the Paper.

Mr. GUINNESS

Question No. 68 deals with ex-service temporary clerks.

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The right hon. Gentleman is addressing himself to the subject of Question No. 69.
