§ 6. Mr. MANDERasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that Australian butter subsidised to the extent of 4d. per lb. is being dumped into this country; and what steps he proposes to take in this and similar cases?
§ Mr. GILLETT (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)There is no direct Government bounty on the export of butter from Australia, but the producers impose a voluntary levy on themselves, out of the proceeds of which a bounty is paid on all butter exported. I do not think that the matter calls for any action on my part.
§ Mr. MANDERIs there not a good deal to be said for welcoming this gift of cheap food sent to this country?
§ Mr. HANNONMay we know if this is the attitude of the Liberal party towards the Colonies?
