HC Deb 18 February 1930 vol 235 c1123
6. Mr. MANDER

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that Australian butter subsidised to the extent of 4d. per lb. is being dumped into this country; and what steps he proposes to take in this and similar cases?

Mr. GILLETT (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

There is no direct Government bounty on the export of butter from Australia, but the producers impose a voluntary levy on themselves, out of the proceeds of which a bounty is paid on all butter exported. I do not think that the matter calls for any action on my part.

Mr. MANDER

Is there not a good deal to be said for welcoming this gift of cheap food sent to this country?

Mr. HANNON

May we know if this is the attitude of the Liberal party towards the Colonies?
