HC Deb 18 February 1930 vol 235 c1131
23. Mr. MATHERS

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the hardship caused to Scottish widows coming within the provisions of the Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions Acts, who are the guardians of adopted children, on account of the Adoption of Children Act, 1926, not applying to Scotland; whether he proposes to take any steps to remedy this position; and, if so, when?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Johnston)

I am aware of the position referred to by my hon. Friend. To assimilate the law of Scotland to that of England would require legislation applying the principles of the Adoption of Children Act, 1926, to Scotland. The point has been noted for consideration when an opportunity occurs.
