HC Deb 12 February 1930 vol 235 c382
2. Mr. SMITHERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether extra work is imposed on the members of the British Legation staff at Berne owing to the fact that Switzerland is the headquarters of the League of Nations; and has the staff there been increased of late?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

No appreciable addition to the volume of work at the British Legation at Berne is involved by the fact that the headquarters of the League of Nations are at Geneva. No increase of the staff has taken place in recent years.

3. Mr. SMITHERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is the number of the personnel at the Legation at Bangkok?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

In addition to His Majesty's Minister, there are at Bangkok a Consul-General, three Vice-Consuls, two student interpreters and an archivist. Four native clerks and a number of native messengers and watchmen are also employed at the Legation.

Mr. SMITHERS

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell the House whether the senior members of the staff are British subjects or not?

Mr. HENDERSON

I am afraid that I cannot.
