HC Deb 03 February 1930 vol 234 c1466
2. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Secretary of State for India the nature of the offence for which Mr. Subhas C. Bose and 11 others have been sentenced to 12 months' rigorous imprisonment?

The SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Wedgwood Benn)

The conviction was, under Sections 124A and 120B of the Indian Penal Code, for organising processions with the intention of spreading disaffection and incitement to revolution.

Mr. THURTLE

Is it now illegal for Indian Nationalists to hold processions in India?

Mr. BENN

My hon. Friend is not accurately setting forth the facts of this case. I may add that the persons convicted have appealed, and the case is therefore sub judice.
