§ Mr. GILLETTThe present duty is 30 per cent. ad valorem. I am informed by the Federated Associations of Boot and Shoe Manufacturers of Great Britain and Ireland that the question of its increase has been discussed in certain South African newspapers. I have, however, made inquiry and am given to understand that the question has not been referred to the Union Board of Trade and Industry for investigation.
