HC Deb 02 December 1930 vol 245 c1978
49. Sir ASSHETON POWNALL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the estimated commitments of the Treasury in the present financial year in addition to those provided for in the Budget?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

I would refer the hon. Member to the Supplementary Estimates which have been laid. I am not aware of new commitments, in respect of services not included in the Estimates already presented, beyond those of which the House has already been informed.

Sir A. POWNALL

Might I ask the right hon. Gentleman if the very large total of the Supplementary Estimates already presented does not show the need for further and greater economy on the part of the Government?

Mr. SNOWDEN

I am always anxious to economise wherever economies can be effected.
