§ 47. Mr. DOUGLAS HACKINGasked the Prime Minister whether he has yet reached a decision regarding the construction of the Channel Tunnel?
§ 48. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLEasked the Prime Minister if he can fix any date when he hopes to be able to announce the decision of the Committee of Imperial Defence on the Channel Tunnel scheme?
§ The PRIME MINISTERNo, Sir. I cannot at present add to what I have already said in reply to questions on this subject.
§ Mr. HACKINGMay I ask when the right hon. Gentleman will be in a position to announce a decision?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI have informed the right hon. Member that there is no delay in this matter. The Report is in the hands of two or three authorities, who must consider it, and I cannot ask them to give me their reply until they have made up their minds. This is not a matter that can be settled in a day. It is the biggest piece of national policy of the kind that is before us at the present time. There will be no delay whatever.
§ Mr. HACKINGI am not suggesting that there is any delay, but I would like to know when there is likely to be a decision?
