HC Deb 16 April 1930 vol 237 cc2888-9
32. Miss RATHBONE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any reply has bean given or action taken with regard to the petition presented in October, 1929, to the Governor of the Gold Coast Colony by Fia Adamah II., chief of the Stool of Agbosome, which petition was forwarded by the Governor of the Colony to the Secretary of State in December, 1929?

Dr. SHIELS

Yes, Sir. The petition has been considered and laid before His Majesty, to whom it was addressed. It put forward two separate claims: one for the restoration of an annual payment which had been surrendered for a lump sum in 1S93, and the other the independence from the Awuna Stool. The reply was to the effect that no claim for the revival of the payment could be entertained in view of its surrender in 1893, and that with regard to the claim to independence, the proper procedure was laid down in the Gold Coast Constitution and the Native Administration Ordinance, and should be followed.
