§ 19. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYasked the First Lord of the Admiralty what are the estimated savings on this year's Navy Estimates as a result of the Three-Power Naval Agreement achieved at the 1930 Naval Conference?
Mr. ALEXANDERI would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to my statement on the Naval Estimates. A further statement will be made in due course when the proposals for the 1930 construction programme have been formulated.
§ Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHYDoes that mean that there will be an increase on the Estimates that have already been passed by the House?
Mr. ALEXANDERI made the position very plain in my statement on the Estimates—that we had arrived at a very large saving in construction as a result of the policy announced by the Prime Minister in July, 1929, but that it might be necessary for me to introduce a Supplementary Estimate.
§ Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHYThat means that there will be an increase on the Estimates passed by this House?
Mr. ALEXANDERYes, but I think that the hon. and gallant Member should be grateful for the reduction already secured.
§ Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYI would be more grateful if it was greater, and so would the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
