HC Deb 16 April 1930 vol 237 c2889
33. Mr. DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether any fees are received, either by the Empire Marketing Board or others, for the hire of the films taken under the direction of the Empire Marketing Board; whether these films are booked by contract; whether they are booked through an ordinary renting agency; can he state the length of these films; and are they classified for quota purposes under the Cinematograph Films Act. 1927?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. Lunn)

The Empire Marketing Board have so far placed one film only on the Commercial market. That film is booked through an ordinary renting agency under a contract, which provides for the receipt by the Empire Marketing Board of a share of the fees. The film is between 3,000 and 4,000 feet in length and has been registered as a quota film under the Cinematograph Films Act, 1927.

Mr. DAY

Have arrangements been made to place this film in the Dominions and Colonies as well?

Mr. LUNN

I could not say just now. Perhaps my hon. Friend will put down another question.

Mr. ARTHUR MICHAEL SAMUEL

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that one of these films is being used in America and has American scene captions, although it represents English scenes?

Mr. LUNN

Yes.

Mr. SKELTON

On a point of Order. Can arrangements be made to inform the House when the first 100,000 has been reached.
