HC Deb 15 April 1930 vol 237 cc2726-7
64. Mr. GORDON MACDONALD

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of cases of overtime worked in the coal mines of Great Britain reported to the Mines Department by the divisional in- spectors of mines; the nature of such oases, specifying the districts from which the cases come; and whether he is prepared to issue instructions to each divisional inspector to forward a list of all the cases of overtime reported?

Mr. TURNER

No figures that I could give of the number of reports made by the inspectors concerning the working of overtime would be of any value as au indication how far the law on this subject is being infringed or even of the number of cases in which it is alleged to have been infringed. His Majesty's inspectors are fully alive to the necessity of reporting to my. Department all cases in which the question of prosecution may arise, and my hon. Friend may rest assured that, through them, I am giving this matter my close attention.
