§ 25. Mr. HURDasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the present position in China and the date of the last communication he has received from the British representative in China?
§ Mr. DALTONIn North China the forces of the coalition against the Chinese Government have advanced into Shantung and Honan, encountering little, if any, resistance. In South China Government troops have recaptured the town of Yuanchow, which had been captured by bandits. On the other hand, four North River districts in the province of Kwangtung have been captured by insurgents. The Canton Government is finding difficulty in dealing with this new threat, since nearly all their troops are engaged against rebels on the Kuangsi front. My right hon. Friend is in daily receipt of reports on the situation from His Majesty's representative in China.
