HC Deb 08 April 1930 vol 237 cc1936-7
21. Mr. HARDIE

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he can state the annual revenue in local rates from houses to let under the 1924 scheme erected by local authorities?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Johnston)

I regret that the information asked for is not available and I am advised that its collection would entail a considerable expenditure of time and money. I trust that my hon. Friend will see his way not to press for it.

Mr. HARDIE

The right hon. Gentleman has answered the question which I have put to him on the same lines that he has always adopted, and I think that he ought to let the House know what he is doing in regard to this important matter. I press for an answer to my question whether he will not arrange that at the end of whatever the date may be during the financial year when all these communities close their accounts, the returns shall be made out and transmitted to the Scottish Department in order that we may know what is being done?
