49. Sir G. PENNY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of Commissions and Committees set up by the Government; and how many of these have already reported?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The appointment of 36 Commissions and Committees has been announced since the present Government took office. Final reports have been received from six and interim reports from two of these bodies.

Sir G. PENNY

Does the hon. Member intend to delegate the thinking powers of the Government to any further Committee?

Sir ASSHETON POWNALL

Does not that average one per week for the 36 weeks that the Government have been in office?
