§ 5. Mr. ALBERYasked the Minister of Transport whether he proposes to take steps by legislation, if necessary, to prevent the use of narrow motor roads by motor vehicles of such a size as to render the safe passing of another vehicle impossible?
§ Mr. HERBERT MORRISONI would draw the hon. Member's attention to the provisions of Section 7 (4) of the Roads Act, 1920, under which the council of any county or county borough can apply to me for an Order prohibiting or restricting the use of motor vehicles of any specified class on any specified highway which is unsuitable for them.
§ Mr. ALBERYIs the hon. Gentleman receiving any such applications?
§ Mr. MORRISONI am afraid I should require notice of that question.
§ Sir BASIL PETOIs the hon. Gentleman taking any steps to call the attention of the county councils to the provisions to which he has referred; and is he aware that in parts of the country it is not a question of one vehicle passing another, but that they are of such a size that in narrow roads often one pedestrian cannot pass in safety?
§ Mr. MORRISONThat is a responsibility which in the first place falls upon the county council, and I should be reluctant unduly to interfere with local authorities, but, if any specific case is brought to my notice, I will see that it is given attention.
