HC Deb 14 November 1929 vol 231 c2215
72. Viscount ELMLEY

asked the Minister of Health whether it is his intention to transfer the control of the profession of midwifery from the present board to a Government Department?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I assume that the noble Lord is referring to certain of the recommendations contained in the recent report of the Departmental Committee on the training and employment of mid-wives. These recommendations are under consideration and I am not at present in a position to state what action will be taken upon them.

Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

Will the right hon. Gentleman be in a position to make a statement before the introduction of the private Members Bill dealing with the subject on the 6th December?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I cannot give an undertaking, but if it is possible to make a statement I shall be only too glad.
