HC Deb 13 November 1929 vol 231 c2037
82. Sir G. PENNY

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can state the date when the Motor Vehicles Bill will be introduced; and if any definite decision has been come to regarding third-party risks?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

I hope it may be possible to introduce a Road Traffic Bill in the other House shortly. The question of the provision of cover against injury to third parties is being exhaustively considered, but I would ask the hon. Member to await the introduction of the Bill.

Sir G. PENNY

Will the hon. Member give sympathetic consideration to including in the Bill provision for creating a fund whereby voluntary hospitals can be recompensed for the amount that they spend in treating injuries through motor traffic?

Mr. MORRISON

I have already answered a question some time ago on that point. My hon. Friend will find the answer on record in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Sir WILLIAM MITCHELL-THOMSON

Does the hon. Member contemplate introducing the Bill this side of Christmas?

Mr. MORRISON

I hope it will be introduced before Christmas.

Sir HERBERT NIELD

With a view to the creation of a fund, will the hon. Member institute legislation to enable the Government to take part of the fines inflicted by the magistrates on motorists who offend against the law?

Mr. MORRISON

I am afraid that I have nothing to add to the answer which I have previously given.
