HC Deb 11 November 1929 vol 231 c1516
57. Mr. LAWTHER

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will give the figures of the number of animals slaughtered under the Tuberculosis Order, 1925, in the Counties of Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland, and the North Riding of Yorkshire, for the year ending December, 1928; and if he is satisfied that proper precautions exist to prevent those carcases being used for human consumption?

Mr. N. BUXTON

The number of animals slaughtered in the counties named during 1928 under the Tuberculosis Order of 1925 was:—

Northumberland 92
Durham 210
Cumberland 152
North Riding 320
The carcases of animals slaughtered, for which compensation is paid to the owner, become the property of the Local Authority, and the Order of 1925 (No. 2) provides that no parts of such carcases shall be removed for human consumption without the written permission of the Medical Officer of Health or other competent officer of the Sanitary Authority. I am, therefore, satisfied the proper pre cautions exist.
