HC Deb 11 November 1929 vol 231 cc1517-8
59. Sir H. CROFT

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he has any official in formation to the effect that Poland is about to give a bounty for the export of wheat, barley, and oats; and, if so, what action he proposes to take?

Mr. N. BUXTON

According to in formation recently received from His Majesty's Representative at Warsaw, I understand that it is the intention of the Polish Government to introduce a system of premiums on corn and flour exported from Poland. A copy of the text of the law embodying these proposals is not yet available. In reply to the last part of the question, I have nothing to add to my previous statements on this subject.

Sir H. CROFT

In view of the threat of this fresh attack on British agriculture, will not the right hon. Gentleman take steps now to guard against this further peril, or is he going to remain sitting there and allowing agriculture to perish?

Mr. BUXTON

That question seems to me to be hypothetical, because we can not obtain a copy of the proposal.

Mr. J. JONES

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider making an appeal to patriotic British sellers of these goods not to sell foreign goods?
