HC Deb 11 November 1929 vol 231 cc1512-3
25. Mr. MATTERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will take steps to see if reciprocal arrangements can be made with the American Government for substantial reductions in the visa fees on passports of British and American nationals when visiting the United States of America and the United Kingdom, respectively?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The general question of the policy to be adopted by His Majesty's Government towards visa fees in the case of United States citizens is under active consideration, and it is hoped to arrive at a decision shortly.

Mr. DOUGLAS HACKING

Has the right hon. Gentleman read the excellent memorandum prepared by the Travellers' Association of Great Britain and Ireland, and, if he has not, will he promise to read it?

Mr. SKELTON

For future guidance, can the right hon. Gentleman tell us what is the difference between "consideration" and "active consideration"?

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

The difference between this Government and the last.
