§ 52. Mr. BUTLERasked the Minister of Agriculture whether the Government contemplates making the staining of imported red clover seed compulsory?
§ Mr. N. BUXTONI consider that the requirements of the Regulations made under the Seeds Act, 1920, which pro vide, inter alia, that a statement as to the country of origin must be made in the case of a sale of any of the principal kinds of grass and clover seeds, serve as a sufficient safeguard for agriculturists against the use of seed coming from countries where the conditions make them unadaptable for use in this country.
§ Mr. BUTLERIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the opinion of prominent agriculturists is that the staining of imported seed would be very much more efficacious?
§ Mr. BUXTONI have not received any representations to that effect.
§ Mr. BUTLERMay I ask what is the objection to imposing such a restriction as staining?
§ Mr. BUXTONI think that that should be the subject of another question.
