§ Mr. LAWSONThe procedure under which cases where benefit has been paid for extended periods are reviewed by courts of referees came into operation in July, 1928. Up to 14th January, 1929, the Rochdale Court of Referees recommended for disallowance under this procedure the claims of 78 men and 41 women; while the corresponding figures for the period 15th January to 14th October, 1929, are 131 men and 33 women.
