HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 c828
43. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Secretary of State for War if it is his intention to close down the experimental stations for chemical warfare at Porton and Sutton Oak?

62. Rear-Admiral BEAMISH

asked the Secretary of State for War if the experimental stations at Porton and Sutton Oak are now in use; what is the nature of the research carried on there; and if the Government intend that these stations shall continue?

Mr. SHAW

Research work on protection against chemical warfare is being carried out at both Porton and Sutton Oak. I am advised that it is necessary to continue this defensive research work.

Mr. THURTLE

Is the work at these stations restricted to defensive work?

Mr. SHAW

As far as my information goes, the answer is "Yes."
