HC Deb 06 May 1929 vol 227 c1942
20. Mr. A. V. ALEXANDER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has received the Report of the committee appointed to inquire into the application for a Safeguarding Duty for certain sections of the woollen textile trade; and, if so, what is the nature of the Report?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister)

Yes, Sir. The Report has been received; but, as the hon. Gentleman knows, it would be contrary to the general practice to disclose the nature of the Report at present.

Mr. ALEXANDER

Can the right hon. Gentleman give any indication as to when the information will be released?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

No, Sir. I cannot do so at present. The Report was only received in the middle of last week, and we have had no opportunity yet of considering it. Obviously, a Report of this important character must be considered by the Cabinet before it is issued.
