§ 20. Mr. A. V. ALEXANDERasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has received the Report of the committee appointed to inquire into the application for a Safeguarding Duty for certain sections of the woollen textile trade; and, if so, what is the nature of the Report?
§ The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister)Yes, Sir. The Report has been received; but, as the hon. Gentleman knows, it would be contrary to the general practice to disclose the nature of the Report at present.
§ Mr. ALEXANDERCan the right hon. Gentleman give any indication as to when the information will be released?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERNo, Sir. I cannot do so at present. The Report was only received in the middle of last week, and we have had no opportunity yet of considering it. Obviously, a Report of this important character must be considered by the Cabinet before it is issued.
